Many provinces warned about thunderstorms

BANGKOK, 28 April 2019 (NNT) – Moving on to the weather, people in many areas of the country are bracing themselves for thunderstorms, as the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation advises all storm-prone provinces to be prepared.

On Sunday (Apr 28), thunderstorms can be expected in the northern, northeastern, eastern and central regions, including Bangkok and neighboring provinces. According to the forecast, there will be heavy rain, and gusty winds, as well as hail and lightning in some areas. Members of the public have been warned to avoid open spaces and standing under large trees and or near flimsy billboards.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, under the administration of the Ministry of the Interior, has coordinated with all storm-prone provinces to be prepared. Personnel, mobile units and equipment have been prepared to handle potential disasters around the clock, and people living in risk areas have been warned of dangers caused by thunderstorms.

Since April 25, thunderstorms have affected 2,963 households in 334 villages in 71 districts of 28 provinces and injured two people. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is cooperating with the Royal Thai Army, provincial authorities, and relevant units to assess the damage in all areas and provide necessities, roof tiles and home-repair tools to those affected.
