Transport minister promises 20 baht fares on all electric trains by September next year

Transport Minister plans to cap maximum electric train fare at 20 baht in Bangkok by September next year to encourage people to use public transportation and address environmental and cost-of-living issues.

Transport Minister Aims to Cap Maximum Train Fare at 20 Baht

Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit has announced plans to limit the maximum fare on all electric train services in Bangkok and nearby areas to 20 baht by September next year. Currently, this fixed fare is only applicable on the Purple Line and Red Line, both supervised by the Transport Ministry.

Expansion of Fixed Fare Policy on Bangkok Electric Train Services

Suriya defended the 20-baht fare, dismissing critics who deemed it impractical. He believes this policy encourages more individuals to opt for electric train services over private vehicles, ultimately contributing to reduced pollution and living expenses. The minister is optimistic that negotiations with other train line operators will result in a standard ticket system and a compensation fund for operators, with the goal of implementing the fixed fare policy across all lines in the near future.
