Prime Minister Announces Update on Digital Wallet Scheme

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin revealed today that there will be significant developments regarding the digital wallet scheme that was initially announced on April 10. In a meeting held to discuss the scheme, it was disclosed that reports related to the use of “open loop” technology by financial institutions and business operators, as well as legal matters, will be presented by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and the Royal Thai Police, respectively.

Timeline and Funding Details Set to Be Finalized

All reports will be presented to the cabinet for final approval in April, with a timeline set for store registration and money disbursement in the third and fourth quarters. Prime Minister Srettha emphasized the importance of injecting 500 billion baht into the scheme to boost the economy, with the NESDC and the Bank of Thailand in agreement with the proposed timeline as outlined by Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat.
