Chiang Mai, 6 January, 2020 – The 37th annual Bo Sang Umbrella and San Kamphaeng Handicraft Festival is scheduled to take place from 17-19 January, 2020, at Bo Sang village, Tonpao sub-district, San Kamphaeng district, Chiang Mai. 

The event is held to celebrate and recognise the community that creates Thailand’s most famous umbrellas handmade from Sa, or mulberry bark. 

Programme:

Day 1: Friday, 17 January, 2020

09.00 Hrs. onwards: 

  • Decoration of the storefronts and alleys.
  • Bo Sang umbrella exhibition. 
  • Demonstrations of basketry and weaving.
  • Indonesian traditional umbrella making.
  • Lanna traditional community market.

10:00 Hrs.: Cultural parade of umbrellas.

13.00 Hrs.: Parade of ladies riding bicycles and holding umbrellas.

  • Parade of cars decorated with umbrellas, Sa paper and Lanna lamps.
