The Thai government has announced a substantial 184 million baht ($5.1 million) investment for this year’s Songkran festival celebrations at Bangkok’s Sanam Luang. The event aims to showcase Thai cultural heritage and boost tourism during the traditional New Year celebrations from April 11-15.

The festivities will feature traditional performances, cultural parades, and water-splashing activities, all designed to honor Thai traditions while attracting both domestic and international tourists. Government officials expect the celebrations to generate significant economic benefits, promoting Thailand’s tourism industry and cultural heritage on a global scale.
The Thai government has allocated 180 million baht ($5.1 million) for this year’s Songkran festival celebrations at Bangkok’s iconic Sanam Luang. The event, scheduled for April 11-15, will showcase traditional Thai culture while promoting water conservation during the water festival. Organizers plan to create ten distinct zones featuring various cultural activities, including traditional performances, Thai massage demonstrations, and local handicraft exhibitions.
Visitors can participate in traditional water-blessing ceremonies with Buddha images and elderly community members. The celebrations will incorporate modern elements while maintaining cultural authenticity, with special emphasis on Thai traditional dress. Local food vendors will offer authentic Thai cuisine throughout the five-day event.
Security measures will be heightened, with over 1,000 police officers deployed to ensure public safety. The Tourism Authority of Thailand expects the festivities to attract more than 500,000 visitors, including both domestic and international tourists, generating significant revenue for local businesses and the tourism sector.
