Bangkok Post – TikTok to Allocate $3.8 Billion for Data Center in Thailand

TikTok plans to invest $3.8 billion in a Thailand data center to enhance digital infrastructure, joining Google, Amazon, and Microsoft in expanding regional operations amid global tech competition.

TikTok is set to invest 127 billion baht ($3.8 billion) in Thailand to establish a data hosting service, according to the Board of Investment. This new data center aims to support TikTok’s expanding operations, including its e-commerce initiatives, with operations expected to commence in 2026. The investment will come from TikTok’s Singapore unit, part of the larger $5 billion in new projects announced.

This move is part of a trend among global tech giants, as Google and Amazon have also committed substantial investments in Thailand’s data infrastructure. The efforts signal a push to enhance the country’s digital and AI capabilities, with government officials expressing satisfaction at the boost to Thailand’s goal of becoming a regional hub.

However, the country faces challenges, particularly a shortage of skilled workers in the tech sector. Despite these hurdles, TikTok’s investment aligns with the Thai government’s strategy to attract global companies amid ongoing international trade tensions. In 2024, investment pledges surged in Thailand, reflecting the growing interest from international firms.
