Thailand has accepted Russia’s invitation to join as a BRICS partner country, aiming to strengthen ties with BRICS members and promote cooperation with developing nations.
Thailand has accepted an invitation from Russia to become a partner country of the BRICS group, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This decision follows a proposal from Russia, which Thailand’s Cabinet approved on December 24. The Kingdom’s Foreign Minister, Maris Sangiampongsa, formally responded to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
As a BRICS partner, Thailand aims to strengthen its relations with the group’s member states and enhance ties with other developing nations. This partnership will position Thailand as a bridge-builder, facilitating cooperation and economic integration among BRICS countries and the global community.
Earlier in 2024, Foreign Minister Sangiampong reaffirmed Thailand’s interest in BRICS at a high-level meeting in Nizhny Novgorod. Thai representatives have attended five such meetings, highlighting the Kingdom’s commitment to deepening engagement with BRICS and its counterpart nations.
